"Both were stabbed in what was clearly a very brutal attack and thrown into the river, presumably for the crocodiles, and their 4x4 was stolen," a Kruger National Park source told The Sun.


A "manhunt" has been launched

Kruger Park expressed its "shock" and "sadness" in a statement following this "macabre" discovery. "This is a very serious incident for us," the source told our colleagues.

The couple, aged 71 and 73, reportedly had a bad encounter with poachers, according to initial information from authorities cited by our colleagues, who allegedly killed them to prevent them from raising the alarm.

"A large-scale manhunt is underway, based on the assumption that they have already left Kruger Park," a South African police source told the British tabloid.

Kruger National Park covers nearly 20,000 km² in northeastern South Africa, in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, near the border with Mozambique. It measures over 350 kilometers from north to south and 64 kilometers from east to west, is home to numerous animal species, and attracts between 1.4 and 1.9 million visitors annually.
